Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
