As any prominent awards ceremony nears, there’s always a demand for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
